Basic Training for Violence Peer Counselors in California
The goal of this course is to train participants on the overview of the criminal justice system, including recent reforms. Although it is aimed at violence peer counselors, this course is suitable for anyone who provides peer support services and/or works with young adults. Diversion and Recidivism
Recent Criminal Justice Reforms in California
Diversion from Incarceration
Through this course of 5 lectures, over 35 minutes of video content, informational handouts and 1 quiz, participants will have a better understanding of the criminal justice system and recent reforms in legislature, be able to define diversion and recidivism and understand how reducing recidivism is a component of peer counseling with survivors of violence, and have an introduction to the Juvenile Justice System through a case study focusing on opportunities for diversion.

As peer counselors or anyone who provides peer support services, it is important to have an understanding of the Criminal & Juvenile Justice Systems. Understanding the system will enable better service to the community and clients. Thus this course will greatly benefit those in this field of work.
