A significant part of the 1993 Paramount film Indecent Proposal's seductive charm is John Barry's sad, sensual music. In one of this most heartfelt themes of the '90s, the main theme captures the story's essential feelings and honors its highest aspirations. An elegant piano melody floats across a warm string bed, and the sensation is one of romance tinged with sadness and loss. Throughout the score, strings are like beds of silk and champagne, and the piano-melodic and arpeggiated-is liberally sprinkled over them like rose petals. Everything is warm and luscious, even when the mood is sad or uncertain. Heartbreak is woven into the sensuality. Straightforwardly tonal, the score's mood ranges from nostalgically beautiful to dark and dangerous to sad and sexy. At the time of the film's release, the soundtrack album to Indecent Proposal emphasized the songs heard in the film, including the original song to which John Barry contributed, "In All the Right Places," and a single track medley running around 25 minutes.

Alternative Rock, Emo | Country: USA | Label: Epitaph

New Jersey-based rock band Save Face have released their full-length debut, Merci. The album is the band's first release for Epitaph. With its catchy-yet-off-kilter and viscerally charged sound, Merci is a concept album about an addict dealing with post-rehab relationship struggles and an eventual paranoia-fueled meltdown. Partly inspired by the theatricality of such bands as Queen, Merci is driven by a dramatic tension that reflects Save Face's mission of making emotionally complex, multi-faceted art.

Few British guitarists have given themselves to the blues with the same tenacity and perseverance as Alvin Lee. What to many of his generation was still a received method, to Lee was an organically absorbed culture he completely assimilated in. And what others have later began moving away from - be it toward hard rock, pop, or jazz fusion - to him has always remained a constant source of self-fulfillmentR30;

While Bob Segarini is a hero to pop obsessives thanks to his bright, rollicking work with the Wackers and his superb solo album Gotta Have Pop, his recordings with his early group the Family Tree are a different and more sophisticated kettle of fish. The Family Tree's sole LP, 1968's Miss Butters, was a concept album at a time when that was still a very novel thing, and the LP boasted intelligent, beautifully crafted songs bolstered by polished, thoughtful production from Rick Jarrard and imaginative arrangements by George TiptonR30;

First album of the nutty band Cheeto's Magazine, 'Boiling Fowls' is a blend of humour and pastiche. In fact, although delivering a progressive music, they stay far from the cliches of bands that take themselves too seriously by playing a complex music just to answer criteria specific to the genre. Here, technique serves humour. In this album, the will to set free from the codes of classic progressive rock is very strong. The opening epic is a good example of this state of mind. A pastiche of Heavy Metal (filled with zappaesque shouts that match perfectly the image of the hen crying for help on the album front cover) is indeed sandwiched between two punchy sections in the vein of Spock's Beard, mixing cheerful voices, catchy rhythms, anthemic guitars and alarmed synths..

John Sinclair is an American poet, writer, and political activist from Flint, Michigan. Sinclair's defining style is jazz poetry, and he has released most of his works in audio formats. Most of his pieces include musical accompaniment, usually by a varying group of collaborators dubbed Blues Scholars. As an emerging young poet in the mid-1960s, Sinclair took on the role of manager for the Detroit rock band MC5. The band's politically charged music and its Yippie core audience dovetailed with Sinclair's own radical development. In 1968, while still working with the band, he conspicuously served as a founding member of the White Panther Party, a militantly anti-racist socialist group and counterpart of the Black Panthers.
